Representative Richard Lindsey was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1983 and is past chairman of the powerful Education Finance and Appropriations Committee, and has been a member of a number other legislative committees.
He is manager of Lindsey Brothers Inc. and is an official or member of the board of directors of several different organizations. He is a member of the advisory board of First Southern Bank, President of Southeastern Cotton Ginners Association, President of Howells Cemetery Association, member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of the Cherokee County ALFA Organization and the Coosa-Alabama River Improvement Association.
Representative Lindsey is a former member of the Alabama Cotton Commission and the board of the Cherokee, DeKalb and Marshall Child Care Corporation. He also served as a member of the Alabama State Democratic Executive Committee from 2000-2006.
Representative Lindsey has received numerous awards during his legislative service, including Legislator of the Year from the Alabama Rural Electric Cooperatives, State Representative of the Year from the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts and the Lifetime Legislative Leadership Award for his work on behalf of Alabama's school children from the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools.
He and his wife, Johna, are the parents of two children, Rich and Anna, and are members of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
