Representative Yvonne Kennedy was elected in 1982. She was born on January 8, 1945, received her B.S. from Alabama State University, M.A. from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, Ph.D. from the University of Alabama, and Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Representative Kennedy is a member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She is member of the Board of the American Association for Higher Education, America's Junior Miss Scholarship Foundation, Inc., and serves as a Trustee of Miles College. Representative Kennedy is also the National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Chairman of the Mobile County United Negro College Fund Campaign, Youth Director for the Board of Christian Education - Southeast Alabama Conference, and former Chairperson of the Alabama Legislative Black Caucus.
