WHEREAS, it is with great pride and pleasure that the Legislature of Alabama notes the selection of Miss Katie Boyd of Enterprise, Alabama, as Alabama's 2000 Junior Miss; in addition to the state title, Katie was named the Overall Talent Winner and Overall Youth Fitness Winner and was a Poise Finalist; and
WHEREAS, Miss Boyd, the daughter of Julian and Debra Boyd, is a senior at Enterprise High School where she ranks first in her class and holds a Grade Point Average of 4.0; she is active in many school organizations and is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Government Association, Advanced Math Team, Government Club, and serves as President of the Anchor Club, Vice President of the Senior Class and Mu Alpha Theta, and Captain of the Varsity Cheerleaders; and
WHEREAS, Katie Boyd is an exceptional young lady of outstanding talent and ability, and among her innumerable honors and awards she was selected as the 1999-2000 Coffee County Junior Miss, Girls State Governor, Cheers Ltd. National Cheerleader of the Year, Dance Performer of the Year, Bryant-Jordan Scholar Athlete of the Year, National Scholar of Merit, Alabama Youth Summit 2000 Director, University of Alabama Leadership Recipient, Senior Class Attendant of the Homecoming Court, Senior Class Beauty, Close Up Scholarship Winner, and Senators Government Award Winner among many others; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her many school activities, Katie Boyd is a responsible and concerned individual who is active in her community and serves as a motivational speaker, encouraging others to "Be Your Best Self"; also, she has worked with the Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Humane Society Drive, Red Ribbon Rally, and Red Cross Blood Drive as a Volunteer and Donor, and served as a Nursing Home Volunteer, Church Mission Trip Advisor, and Mission Enterprise Worker as well as participated in many other activities; and
WHEREAS, Katie Boyd is deserving of highest praise for her dedicated commitment to excellence, and her accomplishments are a great credit not only to herself, but also to her family, school, community, and state; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That in recognition of outstanding achievement and as Alabama's 2000 Junior Miss, highest commendations and heartiest congratulations are hereby extended to Katie Boyd, a young Alabamian of whom we are justly proud, and for whom a copy of this resolution shall be provided with sincere best wishes for continuing success in all future pursuits in life.
