Enrolled, House Joint Resolution, MOURNING THE DEATH OF DR. ROBERT J. LAGER.

WHEREAS, noted with deep and abiding sorrow is the lamentable death of Dr. Robert J. Lager, a leader in the field of international trade in Alabama, in November 2000 at the age of 66; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lager, a graduate of the Baldwin County School System and Syracuse University, received a doctorate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lager was the director and founder of the Alabama Center for International Trade Relations Commission and was an Alabama World Trade Association board member; and

WHEREAS, he was a member of Governor Don Siegelman's task force on reforming the State Docks and served as executive assistant of education under Governor Fob James in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lager was a professor of Latin and Russian at the University of South Alabama; and

WHEREAS, he was an honorary consul to Spain and chairman of the Mobile Consular Corps; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lager diligently served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, the Board of Trustees for the Alabama School of Fine Arts, and the Board of Trustees for the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lager was indeed a kind, loving, and compassionate person, whose death has left an unfathomable void in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby recognize with gratitude and praise the life and selfless service of the late Dr. Robert J. Lager, and do further direct that a copy of this resolution be provided to his family that they may know of our shared sorrow in their great and inconsolable loss.
