MOURNING THE DEATH OF HOBART FULLER REED, SR., OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.

WHEREAS, recorded with a sense of deep sadness and regret is the death of Hobart Fuller (Hoby) Reed, Sr., of Montgomery, on June 7, 2003, at the age of 81 years; and

WHEREAS, son of Hollis and Lillian Reed and a native of Bass Harbor, Maine, Mr. Reed had lived in Alabama since 1948; he was a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and in 1976, Mr. Reed earned a Master's Degree from Auburn University at Montgomery; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Reed honorably served his country with the 150th Signal Company of the Tenth Armored Division, Third Army in Europe during World War II; and

WHEREAS, after being employed by Montgomery Fair Department Stores for many years, Hobart Reed served as controller of the Printing and Publications Division of the State Finance Department from which he retired in 1997; and

WHEREAS, for 46 years, Mr. Reed has been a devoted member of the Tower Class of First United Methodist Church, and since his retirement, a member of the Heritage Club; he is known for his deep love for God, his country, family, friends, and coworkers; and

WHEREAS, left to cherish the memory of Hobart Reed are his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret Johnson Reed; son, Hobart F. (Trabo) Reed, Jr.; grandson, Hobart F. (Trey) Reed III; sisters, Charlotte Robbins, Natalie Mosher, and Emma Richards; and brothers, Stanley Reed, Reverend Clayton Reed, and Richard Reed; and

WHEREAS, the death of Hobart Reed has indeed left a void in the lives of his loving family and friends who, even as they grieve, celebrate his unshakable faith, his unrelenting love for others, and his dedication to the Lord and his fellowman; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we mourn the death of Hobart Fuller Reed, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to his family, with whom we share great sorrow and for whom a copy of this resolution shall be provided.
