MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. ELMER G. SALTER OF AUBURN, ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, recorded with a sense of deep sorrow and loss is the death of Elmer G. Salter, a longtime resident of Auburn, Alabama, who died on January 1, 2003, at the age of 95 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Salter became the first Sports Publicity Director of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now known as Auburn University, in 1928 and subsequently founded Auburn's first privately owned radio station, WAUD, in 1947, where he remained general manager and principal owner of the station until 1977; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Salter was active in numerous community organizations, including serving on the Auburn City Council and as a member of the Auburn Kiwanis Club for 65 years; he also was the Kiwanis Club's first honorary member and president of the Auburn Little League when it sent a team to the Little League World Series during the middle 1950s; and
WHEREAS, indeed, Mr. Salter was a kind gentleman who loved everything that was Auburn-related: The town, the Auburn Tigers, and the University itself; in addition, he had a special fondness for cliches and writing letters to the editor of the local Auburn newspaper; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish the memory of Mr. Salter are his two sons, George Salter and Frank Salter; a niece, Jean Salter Reeves; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Salter, Sarah Salter, and Shelley Salter; and other devoted loving family members and friends; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we are deeply saddened by the death of Mr. Elmer G. Salter of Auburn, Alabama, and, by copy of this resolution, we extend our deepest sympathy and sincere condolence to his family.
