MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. CRAWFORD TOY JOHNSON, III, OF BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, herein noted with deep and profound sorrow is the lamentable death of Mr. Crawford Toy Johnson, III, a prominent and lifelong resident of Birmingham, Alabama, on September 20, 2003, at the age of 78 years; Mr. Johnson was Chairman of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Incorporated, in Birmingham, from 1974 to 2002, and retired as president in 1991; he was the third generation of his family to head the company; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School and University of Virginia and commissioned an officer in the United States Navy during 1945; he also was a longtime civic and industry leader, recipient of the prestigious Greater Birmingham Community Service Award, elected to the State of Alabama Academy of Honor, and held Honorary Degrees from Samford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish the memory of Mr. Johnson are his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Goodall Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law, Studie and Zach Young, Walker and Bill Jones, Kate and Claude Nielsen, and Nina and Ken Botsford; 11 grandchildren; niece, Toy Slayton and her husband, Greg; and other devoted family members and friends; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we express our deepest regret in the death of Crawford Toy Johnson, III, of Birmingham, Alabama, and extend our most heartfelt sympathy to his wife, for whom a copy of this resolution is provided with sincere condolence.
