MOURNING THE TRAGIC AND UNTIMELY DEATH OF DEPUTY SHERIFF MICHAEL BRANDON LASSITER OF RED LEVEL, ALABAMA.

WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow and regret that we record the untimely death of Deputy Sheriff Michael Brandon Lassiter during a tragic automobile accident on April 8, 2004, at the age of only 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Lassiter, a relative newcomer to the Covington County Sheriff's Department, was a worthy exemplar of those caring and dedicated men and women who stand ever ready to provide prompt and professional response to the citizens of the local community; and

WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Red Level High School, Laurel B. Wallace Junior College, and the Southwest Police Academy; he also was a credit to his community as an active Mason and Shriner, where he enjoyed traditions and fellowship with friends; and

WHEREAS, indeed, Deputy Lassiter's sense of duty and dedication in defense of others represented the ultimate in personal sacrifice and his devotion to duty, personal integrity, outgoing personality, and ability to relate to others fostered a spirit of friendship, respect, and trust among his fellow officers; and

WHEREAS left to cherish the memory of Deputy Sheriff Lassiter are his devoted parents, James M. Lassiter and Florie Lee Lassiter; grandmother, Vivian Lassiter; and other loving family members and friends; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in the tragic and untimely death of Deputy Sheriff Michael Brandon Lassiter, the Covington Community and the State of Alabama have indeed suffered an inconsolable loss that is shared with his beloved family, fellow officers, and many, many friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be provided to his family as an expression of our thanks to God for the life and service of Deputy Sheriff Michael Brandon Lassiter and our shared sorrow in his loss.
