MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. GARVE IVEY, SR., OF JASPER, ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, recorded with a sense of deep sorrow and loss is the death of Mr. Garve Ivey, Sr., of Jasper, Alabama, at the age of 85 years; and
WHEREAS, born at the old Gamble Mines mining camp in the Saragossa Community, Garve Ivey lived in the camp until he was 15 when his family moved to Jasper and several years later, he joined the United States Army; he participated in the invasion at Normandy during World War II and was seriously injured; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ivey owned Russell's Cafe on 19th Street in Jasper and later owned and operated a number of drive-in theaters across North Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee; he also owned the former school building that was part of the desegregation of the late 1960s which he converted into a nursing home, Shadescrest Nursing Home; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish the memory of Garve Ivey are his sons, Garve (Helen) Ivey, Jr.; and Gary Miller (Carolyn) Ivey; daughter, Carol Anne (Woody) Hyde; grandchildren, Garve (Sarah) Ivey, III; Nicole Ivey; Tyler Faith Ivey; and Ivey Marie Hyde; great-grandchildren, Ivey-Elise Ivey and Derreck Ivey; brother, Horace Ivey; sisters, Annie Cain and Bessie Head; and many other beloved relatives and friends; he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Pigott Ivey; and
WHEREAS, the death of Garve Ivey has indeed left a deep void in the life of his community and in the hearts of his family, neighbors, and friends who knew and loved him; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in sadness and regret the death of Mr. Garve Ivey, Sr., is hereby recorded, and sincerest sympathy is extended to his family for whom a copy of this resolution shall be provided.
