SYNOPSIS:Existing law provides for a core curriculum for students enrolled in public schools which includes specified elective courses.
 This bill would establish an elective public high school course for Grades 9 to 12, inclusive, titled "The Bible and Its Influence."
 The bill would specify that each local board of education would be granted the authority to offer the course within its jurisdiction.
 The bill would specify the textbook for the course.

TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

Relating to public education; authorizing local boards of education to offer in public high schools Grades 9 to 12, inclusive, a course entitled "The Bible and Its Influence"; and to specify the course textbook.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. (a) Each local board of education may offer students in public high school Grades 9 to 12, inclusive, the course "The Bible and its Influence." The offering shall be considered an elective course for purposes of core curriculum requirements.

(b) The textbook for the course shall be:

The Bible and its Influence;

Cullen Schippe-Chuck Stetson, General Editors;

BLP Publishing, New York and Fairfax, Virginia.

Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
