COMMENDING MR. GERALD DUPREE FOR INDUCTION INTO THE 2007 CLASS OF THE HUNTSVILLE-MADISON COUNTY ATHLETIC SPORTS HALL OF FAME.
WHEREAS, it is with immense pride and pleasure that we recognize Mr. Gerald Dupree upon his induction into the 2007 Class of the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame, which recognizes athletics as an integral and extremely important part of learning teamwork, discipline, and good sportsmanship, and the many people responsible for instilling these ideals and values in not only themselves, but also the youth of today; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dupree attended Monrovia High School in Huntsville, Alabama, where he admirably represented the school and the Monrovia Community as a baseball and basketball player in the 1950s; a time when players did not have uniforms and drove to "away" games in beat-up cars; and
WHEREAS, he later played basketball and baseball at Jacksonville State University and, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the University, the offices of the Baseball Coaches are named in his honor; and
WHEREAS, additionally, he played and coached baseball with the 101st Airborne Division; and was successfully employed for the Corps of Engineers in Huntsville; and
WHEREAS, the people of Alabama are proud to recognize this outstanding leader in high school sports for his tremendous influence on the state's athletic programs and the successful impact he has made on the lives of so many young people; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That, by copy of this resolution executed in sincere tribute and praise, Mr. Gerald Dupree is most highly commended on his induction into the 2007 Class of the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame and is indeed recognized, honored, and commended for his dedicated efforts and notable accomplishments in Alabama high school sports.
