NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON STATE HOUSE AND STATE SENATE REDISTRICTING

The Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment will conduct public hearings throughout the state to receive input from interested citizens and citizen groups on issues relating to redrawing state house and state senate district lines.

As a result of the 2010 decennial census, the Legislature is required to redraw state house and state senate lines to comply with the one person, one vote requirement of the federal constitution, and the representation requirement of the state constitution.

The date, time and location of hearings are being publicized so citizens and citizen groups can attend and voice their views and concerns. These hearings are intended to be forums for receiving public input on all issues affecting the redistricting process. Comments are solicited on identification of communities of interest.

Although written statements are not required, the Committee encourages the submission of written statements and a brief oral summary of these statements at the hearings. Any interested party unable to attend a hearing may submit written statements directly to the Committee at the address stated above, or electronically.

Any person desiring further information is requested to write or call the reapportionment office at the address or number listed above.

The Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment will conduct public hearings throughout the state to receive input from interested citizens and citizen groups on issues relating to redrawing congressional, legislative and state school board district lines.

As a result of the 2010 decennial census, the Legislature is required to redraw congressional, legislative, and state school board district lines to comply with the one person, one vote requirement of the federal constitution, and the representation requirements of the state constitution. Elections under new congressional, legislative and state school board redistricting plans will be held beginning in 2012.
