Representative Barbara Boyd was elected in 1994. She was born on January 31, 1937, received her B.A. Degree in French and English from Miles College in Birmingham, her M.A. in Supervision and Curriculum Development from the University of Alabama, and her Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership and Reading from the University of Alabama.
She is the mother of two children, Frank, Jr. and Reginald M.
Representative Boyd is a retired educator with over 45 years of service in public and private education, secondary, two-year, and four-year colleges including Jacksonville State University and Gadsden State Community College.
For the past 11 years, she has been employed as an Associate Professor in the College of Education at Miles College in Fairfield.
Representative Boyd currently serves on the Trustee Board of Christian Education at Murray Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the NAACP, the Alabama Democratic Conference, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and is a life member of the Alabama Council of Negro Women.
Representative Boyd is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. Sorority,, Phi Delta Kappa, and Kappa Delta Si.
