Representative Richard Laird was elected in 1978. He was born on June 4, 1939, and attended the University of Alabama.
He and his wife, Peggy, are the parents of a son, Joel.
Representative Laird serves as President of Ranco Inc., real estate and development.
He is a member of the Handley Avenue Church of God, Randolph County Camp of Gideons International, the Alabama Farmers Federation, the Alabama and Randolph County Cattlemen's Association and Farm Bureau.
Representative Laird has also served as a former Member of the Roanoke City Council, past Chairman of the Roanoke United Givers Fund; Randolph County Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, and past President of Roanoke Area Chamber of Commerce.
