Representative Owen Drake was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in November 2006. He was born in Anniston and graduated from Leeds High School in 1955 and then graduated from Jefferson State Community College in 1972 with an A.S. degree. He attended University of Maryland overseas extension classes and further studied at University of Montevallo.
Representative Drake enlisted in U.S. Air Force, 1955 and served in Germany, California, Texas, Illinois, and Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery before being discharged in 1959. After serving 2½ years as a Police Detective for the City of Fairfield, he returned to military service and completed 32 years before retiring in 1988 as Chief Master Sergeant.
Representative Drake served 13 years as director of communications for the Jefferson County Commission and retired in July 2002.
Before his election to the House, he served six years on the Leeds City Council, District 2, and recognized as an Advanced Certified Municipal Official by the Alabama League of Municipalities.

An active member of the First Baptist Chuch of Leeds, Representative Drake is married to Kathye and they have six children and seven grandchildren.
