Representative Alan Baker was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006.
He was born in Brewton on July 15, 1956 and received his B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1978 with a major in history and a minor in political science.
Representative Baker spent 27 years in public education, first as a teacher-coach in Phenix City, then returning home to Brewton to teach history and coach football and track at T.R. Miller High School. During his tenure as coach, Representative Baker's teams amassed 10 state championships; five for football and five for track.
He retired from public education in 2005 and now devotes his full time energies to serve in the Alabama State Legislature.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross in Escambia County, the Brewton Area YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, and the Children's Advocacy Center..
He is a member of the Escambia County Retired Educators Association and is a former member of the Brewton Kiwanis Club.
Representative Baker is married to his high school sweetheart, Kaki Stokes Baker, who is a retired teacher and a realtor. They attend First Baptist Church of Brewton.
