Under existing law, the poem "Alabama" with the original music written for it is designated as the State Song.This bill would designate the poem and music "Alabama" as the State Anthem, the song "Stars Fell On Alabama" as the State Song, and "My Home's In Alabama" as the State Ballad.

TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Section 1-2-16, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the designation of the State Song, to designate the poem and music "Alabama" as the State Anthem, the song "Stars Fell On Alabama" as the State Song, and "My Home's In Alabama" as the State Ballad.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1. Section 1-2-16, Code of Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows:

1-2-16.

"(a) The poem "Alabama," a gift to the people of the state from Julia S. Tutwiler, together with the original music written for such poem by Edna Gockel-Gussen, which music has been approved and adopted by the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs, is hereby adopted designated as the state song anthem of Alabama.

"(b) The song "Stars Fell On Alabama is hereby designated as the state song.

"(c) The song "My Home's in Alabama" is hereby designated as the state ballad."

Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
