COMMENDING BILL JOINER FOR INDUCTION INTO THE 2004 ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS HALL OF FAME.
WHEREAS, it is with immense pride and pleasure that Bill Joiner is recognized for induction into the 2004 Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame, which was held at the Montgomery Civic Center on March 22, 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and honors athletes, coaches, and other persons who succeeded in high school sports and have made a selfless impact upon sports endeavors at the high school level; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Joiner was an assistant football coach and head basketball coach at Sidney Lanier High School, his alma mater, in Montgomery, Alabama; his football team won six state championships, including three in newspaper polls at the end of the season and three on the playing field; he also coached the Poets Basketball Team to a 30-2 record and numerous state championships; and
WHEREAS, in appreciation for his outstanding achievements, the Sidney Lanier High School gymnasium was named the Bill Joiner Gymnasium in his honor and, after 30 years, his remarkable record as a coach has not been equaled; and
WHEREAS, the people of Alabama are indeed proud to recognize Bill Joiner for his tremendous influence on athletic programs in the State of Alabama and for the successful impact he has made on the lives of countless young people; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we herein most heartily commend Bill Joiner for his induction into the 2004 Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame and direct that he receive a copy of this resolution for his dedicated efforts and notable accomplishments.
