Senator Penn is serving his second term in the Alabama Senate, having previously held office as Chairman of the Bullock County Commission. He was born March 17, 1972 in Macon County. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law. He is a practicing attorney. Senator Penn is a Methodist, a member of the Alabama Bar Association, Bullock County Partners in Education, Bullock County YMCA Board of Directors and the Union Springs Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies include reading, writing, fishing, hunting, physical fitness, kayaking and sponsoring youth activities. Senator Penn and his wife, Karen, reside in Union Springs.
